Catholic Parish of Edwardstown

Catholic Women's League

Edwardstown - Plympton Branch

Catholic Womens' League (CWL) is an Australia-wide organisation for Catholic women and non-Catholic women married to Catholic men.  As a group it is affiliated to the World Union of Catholic Womens' Organisations.

The objectives of CWL are :

1.                  To promote the spiritual, cultural, intellectual & social interests of Catholic women.
2.                  Assert and defend Catholic and Christian principles, particularly in relation to marriage, the family and education.
3.                  Encourage the Catholic women of Australia to participate in the moral and civic welfare of the community.
4.                  Foster vocations to the priesthood and the religious life and promote the lay apostolate.
5.                  Affiliate with Australian and overseas Catholic organisations.
6.                  Foster ecumenism and inter-religious dialogue.
7.                  Co-operate with organisations engaged in social and civic welfare work.
8.                  Visit the sick in homes and hospitals.
9.                  Carry out any other works of religious, charitable, social or civic welfare nature.
10.             Establish and maintain child care centres.

Some of these objectives are fulfilled on a Diocesan basis - for example, child care centres.  Not each Parish group is expected to run a child care centre.

Parish CWL groups are mostly involved in the life of the Parish, supporting the Parish Priest and the pastoral work of the Parish - for example, visiting the sick.

Parish groups usually meet monthly for prayer, socialising, guest speakers, and generally having a good time in the company of their Catholic community friends.  Fundraising for different causes is another important task, which also helps to build up the friendships among members.

Edwardstown and Plympton groups have combined and meet at St. John's Hall, Plympton on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 10.30am.  Details of fundraising and just-fun events are advertised in the Parish bulletin.
