Our Journey to Emmaus

On the road to Emmaus I meet you;
Let me know it's you, and greet you.
Along  the road we'll travel,
On cloudy days and fine;
On grass, on smooth or gravel,
Or on a steep incline.
Let's share a chat,
About this and that;
And yes, I'll carry your pack,
As we travel the track.

Then when we stop to rest
Share wine and talk and song;
With bread that you have blest.
I'll see your face and know you're near
You, my guide and friend so dear.
Lifelong  share the road with me,
Walking roughened path along.
In my fellow travellers I will see
Your face in  weak and strong.

If ever I trip and fall I know
You stand with outstretched hand.
And when the journey's end appears,
I'll say with conviction grand,
 To friends as Heaven nears
"Did not our hearts burn within us
With love, on the way to Emmaus".
