Edwardstown Parish

Finance Council

The next meeting will be 7th September 2010

REDEVELOPMENT
Those building companies, who tendered for the job have been interviewed by members of the Building Committee and Archdiocesan Curia will now choose the most suitable. After plans have been approved by Marion Council, work will commence immediately on the Parish Hall.  Thank you for those parishioners who attended the workshop design program last Wednesday. Your input was extremely valuable and appreciated by the Finance Council. Corrections to the design have been included in the plans for the new kitchen area.

Safety/Security Initiative In an effort to secure our parish site a fence and gates has been constructed. The PPC & PFC are very aware of the risk to children on both South Road and Castle Street especially for the Weekday Play Group and morning tea gatherings after Sunday Mass. Because of our location a great deal of pilfering has occurred over time also.

The Parish Finance Council instigates and maintains a financial accounting system for the parish including a budget. The Council works within parameters of current assets, projected income & expenditure and material parish needs. It monitors and reviews income and expenditure on a monthly basis. It makes recommendations to safeguard and maintain parish assets, both real and fixed, and also ensures appropriate health and safety standards are met on parish property.  The Council is a consultative body and as such should strive to operate in a supportive and collaborative role with the pastor in the interests of the parish and within guidelines laid down by the diocese. This in keeping with the co-responsibility of the laity in the mission and ministry of the Church.

The determinations and recommendations of the Finance Council need to be ratified by the parish pastor. In general, there is long-standing practice that resolutions and actions are reached in a collaborative way even though the pastor has the official responsibility to ensure good stewardship of the administration of parish finances property assets.

In matters where pastoral concern and financial and property issues overlap, there have been occasions in the past where the Finance Council has met in joint meetings with the Parish Pastoral Council.

Members of the Parish Finance Council are appointed by the parish pastor. They should be able persons with a good sense of stewardship who have a keen sense of  parish interests.

If you are such a person and feel you able to assist in this ministry of stewardship do not hesitate to talk to Fr. Phillip or one of the committee listed below.
