Leader Formation
Our Parish Family Group Leaders together with those from other parishes, met last Sunday at the Monastery for our Annual Formation Day. As always it was an effort to clear the diary for a whole day, but again as always, the experience was well worth it.
We were challenged by Fr Brian Traynor CP to consider "What is right with the World?"  We focussed on the qualities we recognise in Jesus as a leader and were encouraged to recognise how much of what goes on in Parish Family Groups, reflect Jesus' example - eg fellowship, relationship, communication, sharing of meals, celebrating and caring for others. One session in particular, we explored a beautiful alternative way of looking at our Groups and the world - "Believe it and you will see it, recognise abundance, look for possibilities,  be your  best for the world".
We are thankful of the support of the Passionist Family Group Movement leadership, particularly Chris and Tom Wilson, the Diocesan Directors and also Pauline and John Kenny from our own
Parish - and we have come away with a fresh enthusiasm for what we do as members of Parish Family Groups.
If you would like to know more about Parish Family Groups, or how to join one, please contact Pauline and John Kenny.

HENNESSY FAMILY GROUP
Earlier in the year we enjoyed a trip to Kensington for a very
enlightening talk from Sr Patricia Keane about the life of Mary McKiIlop. Hearing first hand some stories which have been passed down. We enjoyed morning tea and a tour through the Museum. Lovely to think that we had walked where Mary had walked all that time ago.

KENNY PASSIONIST FAMILY GROUP
A very recent cold wintry Sunday afternoon was spent in front of a log fire - enjoying a delicious "Afternoon Tea" and everyone sharing in a wonderful TRAVEL story, experience or sharing souvenirs and enjoying one another's company, in the usual style of our Passionist Family Group.  John van der Sman led us in an afternoon of such wonderful sharing and fun.  It was also a great opportunity of hearing what was happening in the lives of those present.

Arman/Masika Family Group News

It was with great excitement that we celebrated the Confirmation and First Holy Communion of our member, Lily on Pentecost Sunday.   Our Family Group has been blessed to share in the journey of a number of members who have celebrated the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and First Eucharist.  We were fortunate to celebrate with a dinner and were joined by RCIA Coordinators Chris and Clare Arbon.

Family Groups are a wonderful way of welcoming, supporting and celebrating both the special, sacramental and holy occasions as well as the everyday occurrences of our lives.

The Arman-Masika Family group extends its deepest sympathy to Marie Hennessy and family on the loss of our dear friend Brian.

Brian Hennessy - RIP

A large crowd gathered at Brian's Requiem Mass, Thursday 10th June at St. Anthony's. Brian and Marie have been parishioners for many years in this parish, leading their Passionist Family Group activities and generally supporting the Parish. They have been regular attendees at Sunday and week day Masses. Brian will be greatly missed. We continue to convey our condolences to Marie and their five children and families we remember them at Mass.

HENNESSY FAMILY GROUP

Hennessy Family Group had a weekend away at St. Martin's during April.  Ahead of the weekend, Imelda and her family celebrated the first anniversary of the passing of their son and brother, Jim, by watching a beautiful sunset from the veranda of St Martin's.

There was laughter, cards, fishing, walks and lovely food prepared by everyone. We appreciate our opportunity for Mass together on Saturday night at Noarlunga.

KENNY FAMILY GROUP EVENTS
On Anzac Day, 18 adults and 4 children gathered for Brunch at the home of Pauline Crabb.  Amongst the Aussie and Sri Lankan Brunch delicacies, we rejoiced in Gerard van der Jeugd's slight positive improvement in his health and constantly keep him and Paula in our Group's prayers. We enjoyed the presence of Molly and Gerry Lawrence's friends from the UK, who were a delight and shared some great stories. A great sharing time was had by all, as another of our Group travels interstate for a family wedding this weekend.
A "TALL STORY" session is being prepared for the near future, where all are asked to share a travel story/memory/memento, etc.

On Sunday 11th April, the Family Group Leaders met for a Morning Brunch at Paolo and Chris Arman’s house to thank Maryanne and Stan O’Loughlin for their dedication, energy and commitment as Family Group Parish Coordinators in a role they have occupied since 1996.
In their time as Parish Coordinators, Stan and Maryanne spoke of what they had received from Passionist Family Groups suggesting that they had received more than they have given.  Even if this is the case, we are very grateful for the blessings that we have received as a result of the hard work of our parish coordinators.  Family Groups continue to bless our parish community and bring the love of God into our daily lives as we meet together.
Congratulations and thanks go to Pauline and John Kenny who have taken over the reins as the new Parish Coordinators in addition to leading their own group.

The Hennessy Family Group commenced the year with an Australia Day barbie at Stan & Lee's. Since then we have celebrated Ros's special birthday at Racquets and enjoyed a bus trip to the German Arms at Hahndorf. Our thoughts are  with Mary Wallis whose sister recently passed away in Perth.

KENNY FAMILY GROUP:
January - 38 adults and children enjoyed a memorable Sunday Brunch at a member's home after our 9:30 am parish Mass.
Last week we mourned the death of Greg Fullerton.  Greg and Deirdre Fullerton were the first leaders of our particular Family Group and many memories were shared. We also mourned the death of Paula Van Der Jeugd's sister, Anne Comas.
Last Sunday 18 adults and children enjoyed a beautiful autumn afternoon cruising the Port River on the "Dolphin Explorer", enjoying one another's company and watching dolphins at play.
We are all thrilled that Pamela, Lenny, Yolanda and Yasmin Gomes have bought a new home in the area and will be remaining in our Parish.

Father Phillip has appointed Pauline & John Kenny as Parish Coordinators for Passionist Family Groups following the retirement of Stan & Maryanne O'Loughlin from that ministry.

Briefly, the Parish Coordinators ensure the smooth running and promotion of Family Groups within the Parish. They liaise with our 4 groups, the Parish Priest, and the State Directorate which incorporates other parishes with family groups. Stan & Maryanne were foundation Group Leaders in 1991 until 1998 and have been Parish Coordinators since 1996.

Best wishes to Pauline and John in this important ministry. Passionist Family Groups remain very relevant as community glue in our parish life, particularly with our diversity of parishioners. In Family Groups we all gain as a community through support and care of each other in the giving and receiving each other's companionship, at the same time as enjoying ourselves. If you would like to join a group talk to John or Pauline, a Group Leader, Fr. Phillip or the parish office.

What are Passionist Family Groups?

In a nut-shell, Passionist Family Groups are groups of families and individuals associated with the church in the Parish. The groups are parish-based and Passionist inspired. Family groups are established so that people within each group will provide friendship and Christian support in good times and bad. The groups are open to parishioners, spouses who may not be Catholics, single, married, divorced, widowed or separated - to people of all ages - from children to the elderly and in a non-judgemental friendly environment.

Family Groups primarily provide a social environment through low-cost outings and gatherings, usually on a monthly basis. Some groups share a weekend away at a place such as St. Martins at Port Noarlunga. People enjoy their functions and tend to develop bonds of friendship and understanding. In Edwardstown our family groups have been  doing just that since September 1991.

Within the parish the building and strength of Community is important. Family groups provide a special framework on smaller scales, to develop that strength and togetherness in a giving and receiving of Christian fellowship.
